Welcome to the

Exmoor Pony Centre

The Exmoor Pony Centre is now RE-OPENED after our temporary closure for driveway resurfacing.  We look forward to welcoming visitors from the 19th June onwards. Please see below for our full opening times.

The Exmoor Pony Centre was established in 2006, to act as a headquarters for the Moorland Mousie Trust and to create a base for handling and promoting Exmoor ponies. To date thousands of people have visited our Centre, ridden an Exmoor pony and engaged in the breed in a way that is not available elsewhere.  To visit our centre is free, as it is our goal to offer the opportunity to meet our ponies as inclusive and accessible to everyone.

Facilities

Set in the heart of Exmoor the Centre offers the visitor a chance to meet an Exmoor Pony up close. The Centre is home to about 35 ponies, some of which are available for visitors to meet in the yard, paddocks and petting pen.

  • Covered Riding Arena. This is where our Taster Sessions take place. They must be booked in advance.

  • Pony Paddocks. There are a few small paddocks where you can meet some of our ponies.

  • Pony Petting Pens.  If you have adopted a pony and wish to visit it please advise us in advance and, providing the pony is available, we will bring it into the pen for you to spend some special time with it.

  • Shop. Pony themed shop with gifts to suit everyone.

  • Self-Service Tea/Coffee/Squash available for a donation. If you are lucky there might even be some homemade cake brought in by a volunteer.

  • Our Green Room building provides a place to sit and perhaps enjoy a picnic (if no catering is taking place). There is more information available about the history of the Exmoor pony.

  • Outside seating/picnic area for visitors to use.

  • Toilet facilities

  • Disabled Access/Toilet

  • Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome into the Centre.

  • Free Parking

Events

During the year we hold a number of special events at the Centre.

Our Activity Afternoons and Activity Days are a great way to get up close to some of the ponies that were taken into our care and have a fun time at the Centre. These events are held in all weather with riding under cover if necessary. Booking is not required and entrance to the Centre is free. There are small charges for the individual activities.
